Candidate Legal Practitioner · Cape Town

Justin Uys

Justin Uys is a candidate legal practitioner at SL Law Incorporated, with a particular interest in corporate and commercial law, commercial transactions, contractual disputes and litigation. Holding an LLB from the University of Cape Town and an Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Pretoria, he combines legal analysis with an understanding of human behaviour, negotiation and commercial decision-making.

Justin forms part of SL Law’s multidisciplinary legal team, bringing a strong academic foundation in commercial transactions, contract law, civil procedure and dispute resolution.

A distinguishing feature of Justin’s background is the combination of legal training and postgraduate studies in psychology. This multidisciplinary foundation informs his approach to legal research, dispute analysis, negotiation and the assessment of competing commercial interests.

Justin previously served as a research assistant to Professor Mohammed Paleker at the University of Cape Town, contributing to updates of Juta’s publications on the Law of Succession. He also participated in research examining the effectiveness of the South African Law Reform Commission, developing experience in legislative analysis, legal reform and institutional accountability.

Beyond his academic and professional development, Justin has demonstrated a commitment to access to justice and community engagement. As Head of Research for the University of Cape Town’s Students for Law and Social Justice, he helped coordinate legal research initiatives, professional discussions and a collaboration supporting victims of domestic violence.

Justin’s professional approach is grounded in disciplined preparation, analytical thinking and the conviction that effective legal advice requires both a sound understanding of the law and an appreciation of the people and commercial interests it affects.
